SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide or MTP-131) is an aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that selectively concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane by binding cardiolipin, a phospholipid unique to that membrane. Published research has studied how this cardiolipin interaction affects mitochondrial cristae structure and electron transport chain function.
