For Research Use Only. Not for human consumption. The following summarizes published preclinical literature for laboratory research purposes only.
What It Is
Tesamorelin is a synthetic 44-amino-acid peptide analog of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH 1-44), modified at the N-terminus with a trans-3-hexenoic acid group to confer resistance to enzymatic degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV). It is classified in the pharmacological literature as a GHRH-receptor agonist (FDA Summary Review, NDA 022505).
Summary of Published Research Findings
Tesamorelin has an unusually well-documented regulatory and research history relative to other research peptides. FDA completed a full new-molecular-entity review of tesamorelin in 2010 under NDA 022505, submitted by Theratechnologies Inc. (FDA Approval Letter, 2010 and FDA Summary Review, 2010). This regulatory history is cited here strictly as research/background context regarding the molecule’s pharmacological characterization — it does not describe or endorse any use of RUO tesamorelin product.
Preclinical and translational research on GHRH-axis stimulation more broadly — the mechanistic basis underlying tesamorelin’s development — has been reviewed in the endocrine literature, characterizing GHRH-receptor engagement on somatotroph cell membranes and the downstream signal-transduction cascade governing pulsatile growth-hormone release (Stanley & Grinspoon, Growth Horm IGF Res, 2015).
Proposed Mechanism of Action
The literature proposes that tesamorelin binds the GHRH receptor on anterior pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating synthesis and pulsatile release of endogenous growth hormone. The DPP-IV-resistant N-terminal modification is described as extending the peptide’s functional half-life relative to native GHRH(1-44), allowing sustained receptor engagement. Downstream, GH-driven increases in circulating IGF-1 are proposed to influence lipid metabolism pathways characterized in adipose-tissue metabolism research, as characterized in endocrine review literature.
Research Use Only / Handling Note
Tesamorelin acetate for laboratory research is supplied as a lyophilized powder. This RUO product is intended exclusively for qualified laboratory research and is not labeled, marketed, or distributed for human administration.
